About
Philip Harper (Baltimore, May 10 1965).
During the 1980's the "Young Lions" were a new set of musicians that played, toured, and recorded with some of the architects of Black American Music. It was during this time when Jazz music was undergoing a major renaissance in the US and these new musicians became the new face of the culture, music, and now education of the history of Black American Music.
Trumpeter Philip Harper was an Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers member and studied under Jackie McLean at the University of Hartford Hartt School of Music. He has played with legends like Etta Jones, Cedar Walton, Betty Carter, "Little" Jimmy Scott, Harry "Sweets" Edison and formed with his brother Winard Harper the group "The Harper Brothers"....
