Viscount-endorsed pianist and composer Walter Kemp 3 is a dynamic force in contemporary jazz, an artist whose roots run deep and whose sound moves boldly forward. Raised by a classical and gospel composer father, Kemp’s musical journey began early, inspired by witnessing his father’s works performed at Carnegie Hall. Classically trained, shaped by gospel, and ultimately drawn to jazz, Kemp developed a voice that bridges tradition and innovation with striking authority.

As bandleader and principal composer for projects including The Black Whole, Kemp + The Reyvolation, and the Walter Kemp 3oh!, he has earned critical acclaim for compositions that reimagine classic chord structures with inventive sophistication and emotional depth.

An award-winning artist with international touring and recording credits, Kemp has collaborated with luminaries such as Juini Booth and Rey Scott of Sun Ra’s Arkestra, as well as Bobby Militello (Dave Brubeck) and Sabu Adeyola (Ahmad Jamal).

A respected voice in the progressive jazz community, he became the youngest musician in over three decades to serve as Artistic Director of the CMC Jazz Festival and currently teaches jazz studies at Villa Maria College. Bold, refined, and forward-thinking, Walter Kemp 3 brings a sound that honors lineage while carving its own path.
