Having made his name in his elder brother’s band, he is now a bandleader in his own right and a terrific force to reckon with on his instrument. He is the leader of the East Gipsy Band that brought the house down in New York’s Blue Note and at the Detroit Jazz Festival. ZOLTÁN ZANA is to many the best tenor-player in his country. At least the doyen of Hungarian jazz, the great pianist Szakcsi called him that without hesitation. He was selected to play for the European Youth Jazz Orchestra. Indeed, his beautiful, velvety tone, his flawless melodic sense, his lyricism and his ability to swing effortlessly justifies all the praise. No wonder he was a rip-roaring success at London’slegendary 606 Club. The HungarianJazz Award-winning talent, Máté Balogh, will be their guest this evening....
