TANN got the blues, internalized the altered modernity and the necessary pinch of contemporary to be recognized as current jazz combo. But then: phrases, stylistic ricochet sound and arrangement ideas that contradict the listeners' expectations. No big gestures, but an unexpected break, a refined phrasing, an oblique insertion are a musical wink for those who can deal with this form of musical humor on level two.
