A widely respected saxophonist, composer, and educator, Walter Smith III is celebrated for his poised sound, sharp compositional voice, and quietly daring improvisation. A Blue Note Records artist, Smith has earned critical acclaim for releases described as embodying “cool sophistication” and a defining modern small-group aesthetic. Having performed and recorded with jazz luminaries including Roy Haynes, Terence Blanchard, Herbie Hancock, and Christian McBride, and appearing on over 100 recordings, Smith brings his deeply expressive trio to the Blue LLama stage for an evening of thoughtful, forward-looking jazz marked by nuance, swing, and subtle intensity.
